Circularity in the Binckhorst: a historical perspective

Research project at TU Delft, Faculty of Architecture (2016)

The research is about historical energy and material flows in the Binckhorst in The Hague, placing the current initiatives to improve the area’s metabolism in perspective.

Historical examples of a local ‘circular’ material and energy flows were found, showing how the current trend to achieve circularity is not new, but often incentivized by external factors, such as economic trends and the state of the local infrastructure.

Main research question:
What were the main factors in the historical development of the Binckhorst and what is the role of circularity in the past, present and future?
